10 Tips to Stay Thin & Healthy This Holiday Season

  • Eat a healthy snack before you go to a holiday party
    • Something small and something with protein.
    • This will make it so that you are not starving.
    • You will make better eating choices when you are satiated
  • Limit yourself to one alcoholic drink
    • One 4 oz. glass of red wine (that’s not very much) is 80 calories.
  • At a holiday party, put your food on a plate and walk AWAY.
  • It’s OK to Celebrate!
    • Thanksgiving and Christmas are holidays where we celebrate with food and drink.
    • It’s OK to eat a little more than you normally would – just do it in MODERATION!
    • Eat consciously.
    • Make choices.
  • Go to your Minimum WO Plan during the holidays
    • You won’t get your full workouts in during these hectic times.  The holidays are moments that “Life gets in the way”!
    • However, we can go to shorter and easier workout options.
    • Do your cardio, sit ups and push ups at a minimum.  This will also help you keep from nose diving and going whole-hog during the holidays!
  • Eat every 2-4 hours ALL day – Small amounts
    • Prepare small baggies for yourself for the day
      • ½ an apple with peanut butter
      • Hummus and veggies
      • Chicken noodle soup with an egg yolk
      • Handful of nuts with some fresh berries
  • Take starchy carbs out of your evening eating
    • When you are not at a holiday party function, take care with your diet.
    • Taking out white rice, pasta, white potatoes, and breads – sticking to steamed vegetables and lean meats – will go far in helping you keep the holiday weight off.
    • PS – Take out simple carbs too – watch your sugar intake!!
  • Don’t deprive bc then you’ll binge
    • Allow yourself a few bits of all that you enjoy. 
    • Again, moderation is the key!
  • De-Stress with these 10 tips!
    • Give yourself 10 minutes of quiet time each day during the holidays.
    • Breathe & Ground often
    • Call a friend and vent – Reach out!
    • Have an Attitude of Gratitude Remember what the true meanings of these holidays are.
    • Take a walk to clear your head and burn some calories
    • Listen to holiday music in the car and sing along as loud as you can
    • Journal about your favorite holiday memories
    • Prepare as much of the meal or party days in advance
    • Give yourself small doses of family
      • Stay in a hotel
      • Take your own car
      • Don’t forget who you are TODAY!
